ABSTRACT

@#The loss of jaw position relationship will seriously affect the face and masticatory function of patients, and accurate restoration of vertical dimension of occlusion (OVD) is the key to occlusal reconstruction in edentulous patients. There are many methods to measure OVD in edentulous patients. In this paper, the working principle, scope of application, advantages and disadvantages, measurement methods and operation points of OVD recording method are reviewed in order to provide some reference for clinical treatment. The results show that the pre- extraction recording method is more objective and accurate, but the diagnosis model before extraction is required to accurately reflect the patients′ original OVD; the rest and stop jaw reference method is easily affected by subjective factors, and the edentulous patients with unstable jaw relationship are forbidden; the swallowing method is more subjective, especially suitable for patients with emotional tension and poor coordination; The facial landmark measurement method is more objective, but it is also affected by some subjective measurement factors. The patients with maxillofacial malformation are forbidden; the subjectivity of speech method is strong, and the accuracy of measurement results is closely related to the clinical experience of doctors, and the patients with aphasia and deafness are forbidden. X-ray cephalometric method and finger measurement method have strong objectivity. They are new measurement methods in recent years and have a bright future. Among them, finger measurement method is especially suitable for patients with maxillofacial deformity or postoperative deformity of tumor.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Biofertilizer Ning shield was composed of different strains of plant growth promotion bacteria. In this study, the plant growth promotion and root-knot nematode disease control potential on Trichosanthes kirilowii in the field were evaluated. The application of Ning shield significantly reduced the diseases severity caused by Meloidogyne incognita, the biocontrol efficacy could reached up to 51.08%. Ning shield could also promote the growth of T. kirilowii in the field by increasing seedling emergence, height and the root weight. The results showed that the Ning shield could enhance the production yield up to 36.26%. Ning shield could also promote the plant growth by increasing the contents of available nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and organic matter, and increasing the contents of leaf chlorophyll and carotenoid pigment. Moreover, Ning shield could efficiently enhance the medicinal compositions of Trichosanthes, referring to the polysaccharides and trichosanthin. Therefore, Ning shield is a promising biofertilizer, which can offer beneficial effects to T. kirilowii growers, including the plant growth promotion, the biological control of root-knot disease and enhancement of the yield and the medicinal quality.

ABSTRACT

Abstract In this study, determination of heavy metal parameters and microbiological characterization of marine sediments obtained from two heavily polluted sites and one low-grade contaminated reference station at Jiaozhou Bay in China were carried out. The microbial communities found in the sampled marine sediments were studied using PCR-DGGE (denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis) fingerprinting profiles in combination with multivariate analysis. Clustering analysis of DGGE and matrix of heavy metals displayed similar occurrence patterns. On this basis, 17 samples were classified into two clusters depending on the presence or absence of the high level contamination. Moreover, the cluster of highly contaminated samples was further classified into two sub-groups based on the stations of their origin. These results showed that the composition of the bacterial community is strongly influenced by heavy metal variables present in the sediments found in the Jiaozhou Bay. This study also suggested that metagenomic techniques such as PCR-DGGE fingerprinting in combination with multivariate analysis is an efficient method to examine the effect of metal contamination on the bacterial community structure.

Background & objectives: Emergence and spread of drug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a serious threat to tuberculosis (TB) control programme. Therefore, the objective of this study was to genotype drug-resistant M. tuberculosis strains isolated from patients in Sichuan, China, using Mycobacterial Interspersed Repetitive Units (MIRU) for epidemiological analysis. Methods: Drug-resistance testing of M. tuberculosis isolates from pulmonary TB patients was confirmed by proportion method. Twelve MIRU loci were analyzed on 80 drug-resistant and 9 susceptible isolates by polymerase chain reaction and agarose gel electrophoresis. Hunter-Gaston discriminatory index (HGI) values were determined for each 12 MIRU loci for the evaluation of their discrimination power. Results: Among 12 MIRU loci examined, polymorphic bands could be generated on 11 loci. Sixty five isolates had distinct MIRU patterns, while other 24 belonged to 8 clusters and resistant to at least one anti-TB drug tested. The association between the MIRU patterns and the mutation patterns of drug-resistance relevant target genes was not significant among the drug-resistant isolates. Interpretation & conclusions: The results showed that with a satisfactory discrimination power exhibited, the 12 loci based MIRU typing could be a valuable tool for epidemiological studies in M. tuberculosis isolates from Sichuan.
